[Trace] Indigenous Peoples of the Parkway

November 30 @ 11:00 am12:00 pm

The History of Native Americans and the Natchez Trace

Since it’s creation as a postal road in the early 1800s to the management of the Natchez Trace as a national park today, Tribal Nations have played a major role in protecting the lands and resources around the Trace.

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, our new Cultural Anthropologist and Tribal Liasion, Cheyenne, will host a presentation to talk about the 25 Tribal Nations associated with the Parkway’s lands. She will discuss the rich histories and cultures of these Tribal Nations and how they all have been and continue to be connected to the lands the Parkway runs through.

Cheyenne is from Corinth, MS and is a cultural anthropologist and Tribal Liason that has worked with over 40 Tribal Nations across the country to document their histories and places of cultural significance for the National Register of Historic Places.

We hope to see you there!
